EU’s Climate Policy: Are We Still On Track?

Can we still make Europe the first climate neutral continent by 2050? That is the goal EU Member States set in 2021. It means moving away from fossil fuels. Renovating millions of homes. Making agriculture more sustainable. And making many personal choices that may not always be comfortable.

So where do we stand today?

Can Europe still reach net zero by 2050? What needs to happen next? And where are the biggest obstacles?

We will discuss these questions with Laura Maanavilja from the European Commission. She works in the Department for Climate Action. Together, we will look at the key parts of EU climate policy: the European Green Deal, the Fit for 55 package, the EU Emissions Trading System and the European Climate Pact.

Bring your questions. We know, the topic is complex. But by the end, you should have a clearer idea of what EU Member States have done so far, where progress is slowing down and where we can all become more active.

Speaker: Laura Maanavilja, European Commission, Directorate General for Climate Action, Deputy Head of Unit.
